MU women's basketball team suffers first loss

Traveling away from the friendly environment of Mizzou Arena for the first time in the young season, the Missouri women’s basketball team coupled that first trip with their first loss. The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State (4-0) used a 15-0 run in the middle of the second half to ice the game and coast to a 78-63 victory.

Junior guard Alyssa Hollins and freshman forward Shakara Jones led all scorers with 18 points, while sophomore forward Jessra Johnson kept up her hot start to the year by chipping in 13 points and seven rebounds.

Kristin Rotert scored 17 points off the bench to lead four double-digit scorers for the Jackrabbits. They also outrebounded Missouri 42-33, including an 18-12 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Tigers (2-1) closed within two points after a layup by Nicole Wilson at the 12:42 mark of the second half, but South Dakota State scored 15 straight over the next four minutes to take a 62-45 lead.

Missouri now heads to Boca Raton, Fla. for the Florida Atlantic Invitational over the holiday weekend. They will face Sampson at noon on Saturday and Robert Morris at noon on Sunday.
