Turnovers trouble Columbia College women's basketball team
COLUMBIA — The Columbia College women’s basketball team lost 93-79 to defending NAIA national champion Lambuth University on Monday night at Southwell Arena. It was the Cougars’ second loss in three days.
After holding an early 27-20 advantage, their biggest lead of the night, the Cougars saw it dwindle slowly. By the 4:46 mark of the first half, the Eagles gained control and stretched their lead to 49-39 by the end of the half.
The Cougars committed 31 turnovers, something coach Mike Davis said let the momentum switch to the Eagles.
“When I was talking to the girls after the game, I said it was a turnover fiesta,” Davis said. “We had four trips in a row where we turned the basketball over and (the Eagles) came down and got good looks and scored.”
Even a technical foul charged to the Cougars’ bench in the second half didn’t provide a spark for the offense.
Cougars sophomore Rachel Oswald had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds and senior Megan Archuleta added 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Cougars (3-3) will next play in the Oklahoma Baptist University Classic, a two-day tournament that begins Friday in Shawnee, Okla.
