PrintCOLUMBIA — Danielle Null was quick to pull an injured Columbia woman and her dog to safety after a crash that caused the car to catch fire, police said.
Minnie Recer, 65, was driving east on Grindstone Parkway at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when a gray Ford Taurus driven by Drew Carrington, 21, of Columbia, hit her gray Dodge Stratus while he was turning onto Rock Quarry Road, Columbia police Officer Chris Perkins said.
He said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Recer was unable to get out of the car, which caught fire after the crash, but was soon rescued by Null, Perkins said.
Null and another passerby, a man who left before anybody could ask his name, carried Recer and her dog away from the burning car, Perkins said.
The Columbia Fire Department put out the fire, Perkins said.
Recer was taken to Boone Hospital Center for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman said Recer was in surgery Wednesday afternoon but could not confirm her condition.
Carrington was also injured in the accident and brought to the same hospital, where he was treated and released.
