The Missourian has launched a K-12 education blog, Schoolhouse Talk. The blog, at www.schoolhousetalk.blogspot.com, is the result of a partnership between the Missourian’s K-12 education beat and MyMissourian.com, a site where mid-Missouri residents can submit their own stories. Schoolhouse Talk blends elements of traditional journalism with reader-generated community storytelling in an effort to engage the community in a conversation about K-12 education.

The blog is maintained by students and faculty at the Missouri School of Journalism who work as editors, reporters, photographers and online media specialists.

Elizabeth Brixey, who oversees Missourian coverage of K-12 education, said there are several hopes for Schoolhouse Talk. “One is to engage with readers about stories that matter to them,” Brixey said. “Two is to better integrate citizen voices currently found on MyMissourian.com into traditional news coverage. And three is to give our students more opportunities to practice journalism using multimedia.”

Schoolhouse Talk is an interactive forum that accepts community submissions of education-related stories, photographs, artwork and audio and video clips for publication.
