PrintCOLUMBIA — Facing its first major opponent of the season, the Missouri women’s basketball team kept it close but fell 66-53 to Arkansas on Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena. The Razorbacks ended the game with a 15-3 run over the last six minutes to pull away.
Sophomore Alyssa Hollins led Missouri (3-3) with 20 points, nailing six 3-pointers. The rest of her teammates were ice cold, though. The Tigers started one-of-24 from two-point range, and finished at a ghastly 26 percent from the field. Sophomore Jessra Johnson had 16 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman Shak Jones struggled mightly against Arkansas center Lauren Ervin, a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection. Jones was held scoreless on 0-for-9 shooting, but added nine rebounds.
Ervin, on the other hand, almost had a triple double, leading the Razorbacks (7-0) with 20 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists. Junior forward Whitney Jones added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Each team played sloppy at times, combining for 35 turnovers, but Arkansas dominated near the basket, outscoring Missouri, 36 to eight.
The Tigers will look to rebound on Saturday when the Texas State Bobcats come to Mizzou Arena, with the game slated to begin at 1 p.m.
