MU’s Division of Information Technology warned faculty, staff and students in an e-mail Thursday morning of a potential phishing scam. An e-mail that appears to come from the address emailupgrade@missouri.edu asks users for their username, password, date of birth and country or territory.
The following is the full text of the e-mail warning:
Beginning early this morning, a phishing email message was received by faculty, staff and students on the MU campus. The email appears to come from emailupgrade@missouri.edu and asks users to reply and include their email username, email password, date of birth and country or territory.
This email is an attempt to gain personal information about your email account. You should NOT respond to the email. The University will never ask for your password via email, and you should be suspicious of any email you receive requesting this information.
If you have replied to the email and given out your password, you should change your password immediately by visiting doit.missouri.edu/password-manager. If you received this email and have not responded, your account is not in any danger of being deleted as the email claims. However, to help us investigate this attack you may forward the email you received, including the Internet headers, to abuse@missouri.edu. Instructions for attaching the headers can be found here: doit.missouri.edu/security/response/headers.html
