COLUMBIA — A West Boulevard convenience store was robbed early Saturday, Columbia police said.

Fastlane Convenience Store, 1013 N. West Blvd., was robbed at about 1:56 a.m. Saturday, police said in a news release.

Police said the employees on duty reported that the suspect came in carrying a handgun and demanded money.

The suspect was described as wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a blue baseball cap, white sunglasses, gloves, tennis shoes and a blue bandana over his face.

“We have noticed a crime spike in Columbia recently, but there is no reason to see a correlation between this robbery and other ones,” said Columbia police Sgt. Dianne Bernhard.

The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the news release.
