Cougars volleyball team ends season

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College volleyball team ended its season, losing to Northwestern (Iowa) College 30-28, 24-30, 30-27, 29-31 and 13-15 on Friday in the 2007 NAIA Volleyball National Tournament at Southwell Complex. The Red Raiders advanced to the tournament quarterfinals to face No. 2 California Baptist at 6 p.m.

The Cougars had Northwestern down two games to one, when the Red Raiders rallied to take Game 4 and 5 for the victory. In Game 4 the Red Raiders erased two Columbia College match points and scored four straight to force Game 5. Down 13-10 Northwestern once again rallied with five straight points to seal the win.

Columbia had four players in double figures in kills led by Daniela Brazolino with 22. Maria Omondi had 15 while Yi Zhang-Li added 13 and Juliana Quadrado chipped in 12. Luana Branco had 66 assists for the Cougars.

Columbia College finished with a 31-10 overall record.
