PrintCOLUMBIA — Missouri wide receiver Danario Alexander will not play in the Cotton Bowl after suffering a serious knee injury against Oklahoma, the team announced Monday. The sophomore will undergo surgery Friday.
Alexander left Saturday’s game after a 19-yard run in the second quarter. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament as well as his meniscus and stretched the arcuate ligament complex. The receiver will start rehabilitation immediately after surgery and hopes to be fully recuperated in time to participate in spring practice, said Rex Sharp, director of sports medicine.
“This is obviously a tough blow for Danario,” coach Gary Pinkel said. “He had some bad luck this year with injuries.”
Alexander missed three games after breaking his wrist against Illinois in the Tigers’ opener. He finished the season with 37 catches for 417 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games. His breakout performance came against Kansas on Nov. 24, when he caught eight passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
