COLUMBIA - The Hickman wrestling team lost to the visiting Helias Crusaders 42-39 Tuesday night, despite holding a three-point lead before the final individual match.

After giving away 18 points due to open spots in the lineup, the Kewpies battled back with both Vince Pescaglia and Tyler Kyle recording pins to put Hickman ahead 39-36. But Helias won the last match, at the 135-pound weight class, to win the dual.

“We knew coming in that the final match, based on where we started, was going to be the toughest one,” Hickman coach J.D. Coffman said. “I knew (Patrick) Beffa was one of the best kids that they had left in the lineup and I knew that it was going to be a challenge for Michael (Sivley) to get a win.”

Hickman is now 1-1 in dual meets and will wrestle next in the Missouri Duals, a two-day tournament that begins Friday at Helias High School in Jefferson City.
