The Hickman boys basketball team advanced to the second round of the Blue Springs tournament, defeating Blue Springs 61-56 Monday night.
Ben Dierkes led Hickman (2-1) with 15 points, scoring nine in the fourth quarter. Michael Thomas and Eric Franklin each had 12 points.
The Kewpies trailed 31-30 at halftime, but outscored Blue Springs 17-12 in the fourth quarter.
Hickman assistant coach Rob Kelly said a balanced team effort and a strong performance at the free-throw line helped win the game. The Kewpies made 12-of-15 free throws.
“It was a good team win,” Kelly said. “We got everybody some good playing time. We dressed 12 players and 10 of them scored.”
