Governor wants money for cancer center

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 | 4:50 p.m. CST

Gov. Matt Blunt announced today he will ask for $31.2 million for the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center at MU in the supplemental budget recommendation. In a release, the governor said the money would be used toward constructing a new facility, increasing patient capacity and attempting to meet the requirements to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. The money would come from the sale of MOHELA assets, which was approved by the legislature last session.
