Outage hits customers along Providence, Business Loop

A breaker problem may have caused a power outage Wednesday morning that affected 800 to 850 customers along Providence Road and Business Loop 70, according to the Columbia Water and Light Department.

The department plant reported the incident at around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, said Chad Shettlesworth, fill-in distribution coordinator for the plant. All lights appeared to be back on shortly after 8 a.m.

Lights were out on Providence Road down to about Second Street, Shettlesworth said, and on Business Loop 70 all the way to the roundabout at Parkade Plaza.

"They tried to close it in once and it didn't hold," and they then tried a second time to close the breaker and it didn't work, Shettlesworth said. That indicated there was a problem. It's not clear what caused the outage, Shettlesworth said.
