COLUMBIA — First Ward Councilwoman Almeta Crayton is collecting food and money donations to create Christmas baskets for families in need.

Her goal is to make baskets for the nearly 100 families who have asked her for assistance, Crayton said.

People can call Crayton at 228-2475 to arrange pickup of donations, or they can bring donations to her home at 409 Oak St. after 1:30 p.m.

Crayton said she will accept hams, stuffing mix, green beans, corn and other holiday food items until Dec. 21.

Crayton has worked to provide holiday food for families in need before.

She has organized delivery of food baskets to those who can’t go to the annual Salvation Army dinner on Thanksgiving.
