Three more water line leaks reported

COLUMBIA — Crews were working on three water line leaks and one busted meter in Columbia on Thursday morning.

“We’ve had a rash of leaks this morning,” said William Strawn, a city water distribution supervisor.

The lines were broken near the intersection of Stewart Road and Garth Avenue, at 3800 Rock Quarry Road and on Ridgeley Road. A meter was busted on Lacewood Drive.

Strawn said the public library and Grant Elementary School were not affected by the 12-inch line break on Garth. He had no estimate of how many people were without water, but he said the crew normally has the problem fixed within four hours.

Strawn said the ground is not frozen, but it is shifting, which sometimes causes the lines to break. Several lines have already broken this week.
