COLUMBIA — Columbia police on Friday were looking for a suspect responsible for a robbery at Missouri Title Loans.

The business, located at 614 Business Loop 70 W., reported the robbery around 1:30 p.m. Friday, said Columbia police Sgt. Brian Richenberger. The suspect, possibly armed with a starter pistol, fired the gun while pointing it at the counter, Richenberger said.

He then approached two female employees, 40 and 23 years old, and demanded money from them. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the store on foot, the release said.

A starter pistol, often used at track meets to start races, just makes a noise, Richenberger said.

“A witness believed it was a starter pistol based on what it looked like,” he said. “It didn’t look like a real pistol.”

Tammy Moser, manager of the business, declined to comment.

The suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with an Orange County Chopper logo on the back and a pair of panty hose over his head, the release said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Columbia Police Department, 874-7652, or CrimeStoppers, 875-8477.
