COLUMBIA — Few Columbians headed to grocery stores to stock their pantries Sunday.
With an ice storm warning in effect, grocery stores were receiving a low, but steady, flow of customers.
Hy-Vee said more stocking was getting done in the store Sunday because fewer customers were in the aisles. The store also spent time salting and shoveling its parking lot, and said it’s been selling quite a few bags of salt, shovels and ice scrapers.
Mark Ray, the manager on duty at Schnucks, said his store saw fewer customers Sunday.
“Business is a little down, mostly because a lot of people stocked up yesterday,” Ray said. “So, it’s definitely a little slower. People don’t usually like to come out in this stuff.”
Ray said that Schnucks is also selling a lot of rock salt and ice melt.
