MU's finals still on for now

In an article published online Sunday, it was mistakingly reported that the MU Engineering Library was closed because the staff could not make it in. The library, in fact, was open though it opened later than normal.

COLUMBIA — Monday finals at MU are still on for now, but a final decision won't be made until early Monday morning.

Campus facilities crews were sent out early Sunday morning to start clearing roads and sidewalks, and they will go out again Monday morning if needed, said Mary Jo Banken, executive director of the MU News Bureau.

If roads and sidewalks are deemed too dangerous Monday morning, she said, the chancellor will be contacted to make the decision whether to postpone or cancel finals. If that happens, the MU Web site will be updated with a notice and information will be broadcasted to students, faculty and staff through an MU alert.

"This is finals week so it's even a little bit more challenging than under normal conditions," Banken said. She said the university hasn't decided yet when finals would be rescheduled if that has to happen.

Meanwhile, MU students looking to get some work done can brave the weather and head to campus to use computer labs, which haven’t closed for weather reasons.

Joe Gonino from IT Services said that all labs are currently open and would be open during normal hours on Sunday.

Gonino said that the only facility that's currently closed is the Engineering Library. The Engineering Library is not staffed by IT Services, but Gonino said it was closed because its staff did not show up Sunday.
