Temperatures inched above the freezing mark Tuesday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to cancel the ice storm warning for Boone County.
The slow melt that was providing some relief for trees and power lines burdened by a thick layer of ice should continue today under rainy skies and a forecast high of 38 degrees.
An ice storm warning remained posted this morning for points to the north and west, including Boonville and Moberly.
In Columbia, freezing temperatures and occasional freezing rain were forecast for tonight, and the Weather Service said new ice accumulation of about one-tenth of an inch was possible.
