Hickman's Yvonne Anderson drives against Rolla on Wednesday.

COLUMBIA — Moments after the Hickman girls basketball team defeated Rolla 67-41 on Wednesday night at Hickman, Bulldogs coach Bryce Swafford said that he couldn’t complain about his defense after it held Hickman star Yvonne Anderson to 16 points, the first team this season to keep her under 20. It was the rest of the Kewpies that Rolla couldn’t stop.

Chastity Prince hit five 3-pointers, Miriam Tesfamikael added 12 points and Alexa Fox scored eight in the Kewpies’ third straight victory after dropping their opener last week.

“They were keying on (Yvonne), man-to-man,” coach Tonya Mirts said. “She’d move that man and they’d jump another one on her. I thought Miriam Tesfamikael and Chastity did a good job, particularly Miriam. She stepped up offensively tonight, they were wanting her to take that 12-footer and she delivered for us.”

The Kewpies’ press also forced several Bulldog mistakes throughout the game and allowed Hickman to break open a game that was close for a half.

“I think down the stretch, we made silly mistakes,” Swafford said. “You just can’t do that against that caliber of a team.”
