Man indicted on charges of shooting former brother-in-law

COLUMBIA — A Hallsville man charged with killing his former brother-in-law was indicted by a Boone County grand jury Friday morning.

William P. Clinch, 37, appeared in Boone County Court for a hearing in connection with the Labor Day weekend slaying of Jeremy Bohannon, 32, of Rocheport.

After hearing testimony from witnesses, the grand jury decided there was enough evidence for a case against Clinch, Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Knight said. Clinch’s arraignment, during which he will be able to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, is scheduled for Monday, Knight said.

Clinch was arrested in September and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Police said he chased Bohannon into a north Columbia McDonald’s parking lot and shot him with a semiautomatic handgun multiple times in the head and leg. Bohannon was later pronounced dead at a Columbia hospital.

According to court documents, Clinch and Bohannon had a bitter, ongoing feud stemming from Bohannon’s marriage to Clinch’s sister, Amanda Clinch, including allegations of abuse. The couple divorced in August.

Amanda Clinch, William Clinch and the siblings’ father, Dennis Clinch, had all filed orders of protection against Bohannon since 2006, detailing threats of violence they received from Bohannon.
