PrintCOLUMBIA — Columbia Police confirmed Wednesday that a toxicology report showed state Sen. Chuck Graham’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit when he rear-ended a car near the corner of West Green Meadows Road and Bethel Street.
Capt. Brad Nelson said a blood test measured Graham’s alcohol level at 0.128 percent and a urine test showed a level of 0.19 percent. The legal limit for blood alcohol content is 0.08 percent.
Graham, 42, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving late Oct. 20. His blood was taken about 3:50 a.m., after a warrant was issued ordering him to submit to a blood test, according to an incident report from the Columbia Police Department. The blood was tested six hours after police were dispatched to the accident scene.
The urine sample was provided at University Hospital sometime after 12:30 a.m., according to the report.
According to the incident report, Graham at first denied he had been drinking and then later told an officer that he had “a few” drinks.
Graham, D-Columbia, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and paid the fine of $500, as well as $122.50 in court costs, last week.
