COLUMBIA — First Ward Councilwoman Almeta Crayton left Boone Hospital Center on Thursday evening.

Crayton was hospitalized on Monday after her blood tests revealed a kidney problem.

“Everything is OK,” Crayton said. “Everybody gets sick.”

She is now following treatment and medication.

Crayton hopes to return to her normal life as soon as possible.

“I wasn’t able to shop,” she said, but added that the most important thing is to spend Christmas with her son.

“I still have to be a parent,” Crayton said.

Crayton said she still plans to run for re-election to the City Council this April.

“I want everybody to have a merry Christmas,” Crayton said. “A safe one.”

Crayton urged her constituents to keep an eye on their health, especially during the holidays. Getting regular checkups greatly reduces the chances of missing a condition that may develop into something more serious, she said.
