COLUMBIA — Boone County is in line for $801,921 in federal disaster aid after President Bush approved a request from Gov. Matt Blunt for a disaster declaration in the wake of early December ice and snow storms.

Bush’s approval means 42 Missouri counties are eligible for a total of up to $28.4 million. Other mid-Missouri counties included in the declaration were Audrain, Callaway, Cole and Moniteau, according to a news release from Blunt’s office. The money can be used to reimburse local government agencies for emergency protection, repairs or replacement of damaged infrastructure and the clearing of debris.

Jim McNabb, director of joint communications and emergency services for Columbia and Boone County, said Wednesday that the majority of damage from the December storms was in southern Boone, particularly in the Hartsburg and Ashland areas.
