Arkansas looking into McFadden report

December 28, 2007 | 2:12 p.m. CST

The Northwest Arkansas Times is reporting that Arkansas running back Darren McFadden was seen, with an agent, at a Little Rock car dealership purchasing a new Cadillac Escalade. The news was first reported on Little Rock television station KARK’s website on Thursday. Any gift from an agent to a college player would violate NCAA compliance regulations. McFadden, a Heisman Trophy finalist could be ineligible for Tuesday's Cotton Bowl, if he received a gift.

McFadden practiced with the team on Friday while Arkansas officials work with both the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference to clear up the issue.

“We are obviously aware of some of the reports and we have worked vigorously since getting some information to look into the matter,” Arkansas sports information director Kevin Trainor said. “Any compliance issue is a very serious matter. We are not giving status reports on the matter but we are certainly hoping to resolve it as soon as possible and move on.”
