Suspect apprehended after stabbing at Columbia home

COLUMBIA — A man was stabbed late Thursday night in central Columbia but was treated and later released, police said.

Columbia police were called at 9:56 p.m. to a disturbance in the 800 block of Wilkes Boulevard, a department news release said. Officers found a 29-year-old male with a stab wound to his side. The man was taken to the emergency room at University Hospital where he was treated and later released.

Police officers arrested Charles McCoy, 27, on suspicion of second-degree assault and armed criminal action, the release said. Police said McCoy and the victim were involved in the disturbance that had taken place in the front yard of the Wilkes Boulevard residence.
