Cougars men's basketball team wins in double overtime

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College men’s basketball team topped Missouri Baptist 69-62 in double overtime Saturday at Southwell Complex.

A 15-0 run gave the Cougars a 30-14 advantage at the break. But Missouri Baptist fought back in the second half outscoring Columbia 39-23 to push the game into overtime.

The Spartans matched the Cougars’ scoring in the first overtime and scored a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie again at 60 and force a second overtime.

The Cougars outscore Missouri Baptist 9-2 in the second overtime for the victory.

Trae Hall again led Columbia with 24 points. Joe Flanner ended with 14 and Mikel Fields chipped in 13. Christian Lewis led Columbia on the boards with nine rebounds. Columbia notched a 42-39 rebounding edge in the game.

Columbia improves to 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference with the win. The Cougars are 14-3 overall.
