Final presentation of “Imagine Columbia’s Future” scheduled

Wednesday, January 16, 2008 | 8:52 p.m. CST

What: Visioning Committee Co-Chairs Dianne Drainer and Jeffrey Williams will present the final “Imagine Columbia’s Future” committees’ report, developed by ACP Visioning and Planning, to the visioning Sponsors Council for its approval. Members of the council are Columbia College President Gerald Brouder, Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Phyllis Chase, MU Chancellor Brady Deaton, Stephens College President Wendy Libby, Boone County Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson, Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman and City Manager Bill Watkins.

When: 1:30 p.m. Friday

Where: City Council chambers on the fourth floor of the Daniel Boone City Building, 701 E. Broadway

Other details: The report, a draft of which was submitted in November, represents the culmination of more than a year and a half of community discussions about goals for Columbia’s future. The Visioning Committee spent several weeks reviewing the draft report. Its primary amendment is a supplemental recommendation for how to implement myriad goals and strategies listed in the visioning document. That supplement calls for allowing existing city and county boards and commissions to assist in the implementation of the plan and the appointment of an oversight committee that would monitor, track and encourage progress in the coming years.
