JEFFERSON CITY- A Missouri senator is taking aim at the Kansas Jayhawk.
Sen. Dan Clemens is sponsoring legislation that would declare the Kansas Jayhawk the official game bird of the state of Missouri.
But Clemens doesn't mean it as an honor. His bill is a satirical way to highlight how the University of Missouri Tigers shot down the University of Kansas Jayhawks in football this year.
It just so happens that the Tigers and Jayhawks are to meet on the basketball court Saturday.
The Republican senator from Marshfield is an alum of the University of Missouri. He acknowledges his bill is meant more for fun than as a serious effort.
For the record, Missouri already has an official game bird. It's the bobwhite quail.
