COLUMBIA — After a two-car accident just after 9:30 a.m. Friday, Columbia firefighters were able to extricate the female driver who was trapped in her sport utility vehicle, according to a release from the Columbia Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to remove the woman in less than 10 minutes and then transported her to the trauma center at University Hospital, according to the release.
Witnesses said the accident, which involved another vehicle, occurred at College Avenue and Walnut Street, where the woman’s Mitsubishi Montero rolled at least once, landing on its wheels in a grassy area of the intersection’s northwest corner.
The release said the other vehicle involved was a four-door compact with a single occupant who did not appear to be injured and refused treatment. Firefighters found the vehicle upright in the middle of the intersection.
The Columbia Police Department has not yet released the name of the driver or the cause of the accident.
