COLUMBIA — Plans for a five-story addition to the Daniel Boone City Building will be the subject of a public hearing before the Columbia City Council at its meeting Tuesday.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers on the fourth floor of the building.

The renovation and addition to the Boone Building is a three-phase project that will cost about $23 million. Recently completed Phase 1 included renovations to the lobby of the existing building. If the Council approves the second and third phases, bidding would begin in February and construction would begin in late April or early May.

Phase 2 includes the demolition of utility service annex at Broadway and Eighth Street, followed by the construction of a five-story addition with an approximate completion time of 18 months. Phase 3 includes further renovations to the current building.

The project is designed to achieve a Silver Level certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design by the United States Green Building Council.
