PrintJEFFERSON CITY — Missouri has a state song, a state animal and an official state grass. Now a senator wants an official food.
Sen. John Loudon is proposing legislation to make the ice cream cone Missouri’s official state dessert.
The edible ice cream cone made its American debut at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis.
Loudon says Missouri has remained an important ice cream cone state. He cites an ice cream research and development facility at the University of Missouri-Columbia as an example.
The Republican senator from Chesterfield says students will host an ice cream day at the Capitol next month to promote the idea.
Missouri would be one of only a few states with an official dessert.

Is this all our elected officials know how to do, come up with something "official" for the state? I am disappointed in both parties.
This is ridiculous. These jokers need to be replaced with people that take the responsibilities to their fellow citizens seriously. Missouri is a below average state. To support that statement, I pulled a few stats from FedStats[1]. Income is below average, persons below poverty are above average and the unemployment rate is above average. These statistics are a little dated, but with senators like John Loudon at the helm, I'd be surprised to see improvement.

If I had more time, I'd provide more data to highlight the monumental waste of time this senator is perpetrating on state government.

I'm sure it makes students happy seeing their suggestions proposed by a state legislator, but it is a waste of time and serves no purpose.
