PrintCOLUMBIA — Sophomore guard Nacy Thornsberry came off the bench and had a team-high 15 points in only 15 minutes of playing time to lead Columbia College (9-11) to a 74-45 win against Hannibal-LaGrange (1-18) on Tuesday night.
“When I come into the game I like to give the team a lift and give them energy, but anyone on this team can do that,” Thornsberry said.
Thornsberry entered the game early in the first half with her team struggling to score. The Trojans were closing the gap on the scoreboard before Thornsberry hit three three-pointers to help pace the Cougars to a 46-26 halftime lead. Thornsberry scored 13 of her points by halftime.
Sophomore forward Rachel Oswald said it was great to see Thornsberry have a good shooting night.
“Nacy shot the ball very well tonight. She is a very good shooter and is good at driving to the lane,” Oswald said.
Cougar head coach Mark Davis said Thornsberry’s play and the team’s non-selfish style of play were keys to victory.
“I thought we started off strong, but then we really had some stretches were we struggled. Nacy came off the bench and gave us a big lift,” Davis said. “It’s all about getting better as team.”
Although she led the team in points, Thornsberry was quick to give credit to her teammates.
“We have some good guards on this team who are unselfish and they do a great job of finding the open person,” Thornsberry said.
