COLUMBIA — A 21-year-old woman who was involved in an accident on Providence Road near Turner Avenue last week has died from her injuries.

Brittany Waid was traveling south on Providence Road at 4:25 a.m. Jan. 14 when she struck the curb and hit a chain link fence, according to the Columbia Police Department. Her vehicle, a black Ford Focus, then went up a hill, struck a tree and flipped, coming to rest near the top of the hill.

Waid was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, the Police Department said. She was transported to University Hospital by ambulance and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Waid remained in Intensive Care at University Hospital until she died Saturday. This is the first accident in the city limits of Columbia in 2008.
