PrintCOLUMBIA — Jessra Johnson scored 18 points and had eight rebounds against No. 6 Baylor on Wednesday, but her teammates combined for just 39 points as the Missouri women’s basketball team lost to the Bears 72-57 at Mizzou Arena. The last time the Tigers upset Baylor was in 2006, which ended the Bears’ 30-game winning streak.
Johnson, a sophomore forward, was the only player to get into any sort of rhythm for the Tigers (8-10, 1-4) as the Bears (17-1, 5-0) defense harassed the Tigers into many bad shots throughout the game.
Missouri shot just 35 percent from the field and made only three 3-pointers in the game, including two by sophomore forward Amanda Hanneman.
It was an especially rough night for junior guard Alyssa Hollins. She was Missouri’s leading scorer at 16.8 points per game entering Wednesday’s game, but made just two of 12 shots for 10 points, six above her season low. She didn’t make a 3-pointer for just the third time this season and her 10 points was her fourth lowest of the season.
Missouri held reigning Big 12 Player of the Week Angela Tisdale to seven points, but junior guard Jhasmin Player picked up the slack for Baylor and led the Bears with 18 points on nine of 15 shooting.
The Tigers trailed by 11 at halftime, but Baylor shot 57 percent in the second half to turn the game into a rout.
Missouri will play next at Texas at 1 p.m. Saturday.
