How cold is it?

The low number on the thermometer tells only part of the story.

We each have our own way of describing how bitterly cold it is.

Try completing this sentence:

It’s so cold that ...

Some MU students who showed up for an 8 a.m. class shared their thoughts.

It’s so cold that frostbite can set in on the walk from the parking lot to the door.

It’s so cold that the air tightens around your neck and sucks the oxygen right out of your lungs the instant you step outside.

It’s so cold that South Dakota feels like a tropical paradise.

Some completed this sentence: It’s a ... day.

It’s a freeze your ears so they drop off and shatter in a million pieces day.

It’s a turn into an icicle and still wish I were in bed day.

It’s a breath-shattering, leg-numbing, cheek-tingling winter day.

It’s a don’t stick your tongue out because it might get stuck to the air day.

It’s an if you move too fast you’ll make your own wind chill and lose your fingers and toes to frostbite day.

It’s a day my car engine coughed and called in sick due to cold.
