Up 10 at the half, No. 15 McKendree (Ill.) opened up the second half with a 24-6 run en route to a 79-50 win over No. 21 Columbia College men on Saturday.
The NAIA’s second-most accurate three-point shooting team, McKendree (16-5) hit five of its first six three-pointers in the second half and finished 8 for 15 shooting. The Bearcats shot 51 percent from the field for the game.
The Cougars (16-5) shot 28 percent from the field, but just eight percent from beyond the arc, connecting on only one of their 12 attempts. McKendree also outrebounded the Cougars 42-34.
T.J. Stone hit his first four three-pointers and finished with 16 points. Ken Detmer also had 16 for the Bearcats.
Brett Hoskins led Columbia College with 14 points, and Trae Hall added 12 in the loss.
McKendree improved to 6-0 and is the only undefeated team in the American Midwest Conference.
Columbia College dropped to 4-2, but still sits in second place with eight games remaining.
The Cougars will travel to Fayette, Mo., Monday night to face Central Methodist. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
