Senator wants to stop publishing Missouri’s Official Manual

JEFFERSON CITY — A state senator wants to stop the biennial publishing of Missouri’s Official Manual.

Often called the “Blue Book” because of its cover, the manual is a rundown of state government. It includes biographies and addresses for elected officials and lists members of state boards and commissions.

The manual has been published every other year since the 19th century.

Republican Sen. Kevin Engler of Farmington says it costs about a half-million dollars and the information is already available online.

But Ron Berry with the secretary of state’s office said high-speed Internet access is limited in many rural areas, making the manuals harder to access online. Berry said the books go to schools, courthouses and local government officials.

I say cut the program and give the money to education funds. It is about time we start trimming the fat.
