COLUMBIA — Police are looking for a suspect in connection with an attempted robbery at knife point early Thursday morning in downtown Columbia.

A 34-year-old Columbia man said he was walking along the 500 block of Walnut Street around 1:20 a.m. when the suspect approached and produced a knife, threatening the victim and demanding money, according to a police news release. The victim did not turn over any money, and the suspect fled north from the scene.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male about 6 feet 2 inches or 6 feet 3 inches tall, of medium build and with braided hair, according to the release. He was last seen wearing a heavy black coat, blue jeans and a red baseball cap with a sticker on the bill.
