David Franta, executive director of the Columbia Area United Way, announced his resignation in a press release Friday.

The release states that Franta’s resignation, which will take effect June 1, is due in part to his decision to relocate to the St. Louis area after his wife, Pamela Franta, accepted a job there.

Since Franta first began serving as executive director in 1990, United Way donations have increased from $1,045,023 in 1989 to $3,117,111 in the of fall 2007, according to the press statement.

In the release, Pam Walker, United Way’s volunteer president, attributes much of the organization’s success to Franta’s service and said she is thankful for his work for the United Way during the past 17 years.

“David’s leadership, dedication, and passion for our United Way will leave our organization in a much stronger position as we face the future,” Walker said in the release.
