Three Columbia residents were injured in a two-car accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of Heather Lane and Broadway, Columbia police said.
A 1996 Mazda, driven by Samora M. Mwakalindil, 31, was parked on Heather Lane, facing south, before attempting to make a left turn onto Broadway. Tammy Phillips, 45, was driving a 2001 Chrysler van west on Broadway when Mwakalindil pulled into the path of her car, causing the collision, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
Both Mwakalindil and Phillips were injured in the accident. Mwakalindil’s passenger, Cecile Bwanamoto, 28, was also injured.
All three involved were wearing seat belts and were later transported to University Hospital for treatment.
According to the news release, Phillips was admitted to the hospital for arm injuries; Mwakalindil treated for neck pain; and Bwanamoto treated for leg and chest pain.
Current condition reports were unavailable at 9 p.m. Monday.
Patrol Sgt. Barbara Buck said police have not issued any summons but may do so after those involved in the accident receive treatment.
