Brochure offers new information for victims of domestic violence

Thursday, February 7, 2008 | 2:51 p.m. CST

New information aimed to help Missourians deal with or protect themselves against domestic violence has been made available by Attorney General Jay Nixon.

The free 20-page brochure called “Protecting Victims of Domestic Violence” is available online and in paper form, according to a news release from the attorney general’s office. It explains Missouri’s laws on domestic violence, including recent changes, and provides a list of shelters and other resources available to domestic violence victims.

One change is the creation of the Safe at Home program, which allows victims to establish a post office box with the Missouri secretary of state’s office so their physical address remains confidential, according to the release.

Missourians can get the brochure online at ago.mo.gov or by calling the attorney general’s consumer protection hotline at (800) 392-8222.
