Hardware store moves in to Centerstate Crossing

COLUMBIA — The Menards hardware store chain will soon add a new location as part of the Centerstate Crossing development on Vandiver Drive. The Columbia City Council signed off on plans for the store Monday night after Menards addressed concerns expressed by the Hilton Garden Inn next door.

Among the major revisions to the Menards plan is the relocation of its garden center and of a retaining wall that hotel owners felt was too close. Fourth Ward Councilman Jerry Wade also asked for machinery that would reduce the noise from the hardware store’s heating and air conditioning system.

Menards also made revisions to make the development less of an eye sore. It plans for a new sign with stone enhancements at its base, a wrought iron fence at the front of the building and a raised section of the roof that will shield utilities from view. Its warehouse will be placed at the back of the property.
