Columbia woman in running for a Grammy

COLUMBIA — When the 50th annual Grammy Awards are handed out today, Milbre Burch of Columbia will be in the audience, wondering whether her name will be called.

She is a nominee in the category of “Best Spoken Word Album for Children” for “Making the Heart Whole Again: Stories for a Wounded World,” released by Kind Crone Productions.

The other nominees are: Diana Ferlatte with “Wickety Whack — Brer Rabbit is Back,” released by Diana Ferlatte, and heavy-hitters Jim Dale with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” released by Listening Library, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci with “The One and Only Shrek,” Audio Renaissance, and Toni Morrison with “Who’s Got Game? The Ant or the Grasshopper? The Lion or the Mouse? Poppy or the Snake?” from Simon and Schuster Audio.

Burch is attending the Los Angeles ceremony with her husband, Berkley Hudson, who teaches in MU’s School of Journalism, and their daughters, 11-year-old Elizabeth and 15-year-old Katy.

Only part of the Grammy Awards is televised and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. tonight on CBS, KRCG/Channel 12.
