COLUMBIA — After transferring from Connors State College in Oklahoma, Columbia College guard Keishell Paul had to sit out first semester.
The Cougars were happy to have her on the floor Tuesday night.
Paul made a fastbreak layup with less than a minute remaining in the game, and then made two free throws to seal an 83-81 comeback victory over the University of Illinois at Springfield.
“That’s my girl,” Columbia College forward Rachel Oswald said. “You can always count on her to make her layups, hit a free throw, or even hit a big three. You can always count on Keishell to do something great.”
Paul said she wasn’t nervous at the free throw line with the game hanging in the balance.
“I just relaxed and put it in,” Paul said.
Paul was one of four guards to score in double figures for the Cougars. Whitney Davis, Whitney Widaman, and Nancy Thornsberry all scored at least 10 points as well.
“We’re just having a lot of people contribute,” coach Mike Davis said, “With the defense we play the guards really have to key that.”
