COLUMBIA — Behind a well-balanced scoring attack, the Rock Bridge girls basketball team defeated Troy Buchanan, 73-21 Tuesday night.
“I think that’s definitely an asset to our team,” senior guard Claire Schaeperkoetter said. “The opponent’s defense can’t just focus on one person. Anybody can score on a given night. They have to play honest defense.”
Schaeperkoetter scored 15 points to lead five scorers in double figures for the Bruins (18-6). Junior guard Kelsey Eckenrode was the team’s second leading scorer, chipping in 14 points. Schaeperkoetter and Eckenrode each connected on three 3-pointers. As a team, the Bruins shot 7-for-13 from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore guard Amaya Williams, junior forward Katherine Harry and senior forward Kelsie Shearrer all pitched in with 10 points each.
The Bruins always seemed to find the open player on this night. “Our kids did a great job of sharing the ball,” coach Jill Nagel said.
