COLUMBIA — If you’re interested in understanding what it’s like to be a Columbia police officer, the Police Department is now accepting applications for its 10-week Citizens’ Police Academy.
According to the department’s Web site, “the academy is designed to enhance the Columbia Police Department’s active participation with the public.” The academy will address issues including patrolling, drug enforcement and major crime.
The academy runs March 4 through May 13 and will meet 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays. There is also one Saturday session for firearm familiarization and a four-hour ride along with patrol officers will be available to those who are interested.
The academy is open to anyone over the age of 21 with preference to Columbia residents and those who work in Columbia or own a local business or property, according to the Web site.
