The Rock Bridge girls swim team had an impressive performance at the state championships Saturday in St. Peter’s.

The Bruins edged out Parkway South for sixth place, up from 10th place a year ago. Parkway South had beaten the Bruins three times throughout the team’s season.

Rock Bridge was led by Corey Murphey’s fourth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, Katherine Caldwell’s second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and the fifth place finish of the 200-yard medley relay team of Kate Hunt, Caldwell, Murphey and Leah Hunter. Freshman Allison Boyle also had a strong performance in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing seventh.

In all, Rock Bridge had nine swims on the meet’s second day, the finals session. That’s up from five in 2007.

Hickman, led by Nathalia Mello, finished 28th. Mello finished seventh in the 200-yard IM and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly.
