COLUMBIA — Missouri entered the final match of Sunday’s wrestling meet with Iowa State tied, but sophomore heavyweight Mark Ellis lost his bout and Iowa State won 18-15.

The Tigers lost their first three matches in Ames, Iowa, but senior Josh Wagner stopped that trend with a 5-4 win at 149-pounds. At 157- pounds, junior Michael Chandler, who was No. 13 in the nation, then upset No. 8 Cyler Sanderson 11-5, and 165- pound second-ranked sophomore Nicholas Marable tied the meet with a 4-3 victory. It was the ninth straight meet in which Marable has not surrendered a takedown.

After Iowa State won the next two matches to take a six point lead, sophomore Max Askren won the 194-pound match with a fall in 2:32, earning six points for the Tigers and tying the match.

An upset by Ellis against No. 6 David Zabriskie would have won the meet for Missouri, but Zabriskie won 7-3.

The Tigers next match is the Big 12 Championships on March 8, in Stillwater, Okla.
