Several inches of snow accumulation is possible
COLUMBIA — A storm system that was coming ashore Wednesday morning on the West Coast was expected to bring accumulating snow and sleet to much of Missouri for the end of the work week.
Winter storm watches were posted for Boone County along with the southeastern half of the state. For mid-Missouri, the watch covers the period from Thursday morning through Friday afternoon.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis forecasts the precipitation to begin Thursday morning as snow and mix with sleet by the afternoon. The wintry mix is expected to continue off and on until Friday afternoon, with
up to several inches of accumulation possible.
"There is still a lot of uncertainty as to the timing and track of the storm," the Weather Service said in an advisory posted early Wednesday morning.
A winter storm watch means that severe winter weather is possible but not certain. For the latest forecast information, go to the Missourian's weather page or the National Weather Service.
